Azure Cloud Engineer – London, South East England
As part of an overall refresh of its underlying business processes and IT, our client is currently executing a number of projects that involve significant business and technological change. These projects include a mixture of bespoke on-premises and cloud-hosted/hybrid solutions. To support these activities, the company require an experienced, hands-on Azure Platform Engineer, with a deep understanding of the Azure ecosystem. On a day-to-day basis, the successful candidate will be reporting to our DevOps team to architect and deliver cloud-based solutions and reusable design patterns across multiple development teams. The candidate would be expected to participate in technical review meetings and provide suggestions and design input to help drive our cloud adoption initiative.
In detail, the position encompasses duties and responsibilities as follows:
- Work with multiple development teams with a variety of different skill sets to help them achieve their cloud transformation objectives – encompassing design, development, and enhancement of solutions.
- Responsible for innovative design and implementation of cloud infrastructure and platforms.
- Provide support and advice to operations infrastructure teams to enable knowledge transfer and allow them to assist in operation and problem resolution.
- Define and maintain cloud procedures and artefacts to ensure everything is fully documented.
- Provide technical input in the creation of infrastructure project proposals.
- Work with our internal authorities to ensure all solutions are compliant with established best practices and architectural target state.
- Develop standardised patterns/blueprints to secure design, scripted deployment, and maintenance tasks.
- Drive adoption of engineering best practices, supporting team members to improve quality and efficiency.
The ideal candidate will have
- Expert level cloud infrastructure experience, including server, storage, networking, and applications, and PaaS products such as Azure SQL, WebApps, AppServices, Private Links, and container orchestration tools.
- Experience and proven track record of building, managing, and migrating solutions in a private cloud environment.
- Experience in DevOps practises including scripting and automation (IaC) with skills in Terraform and Ansible.
- Strong knowledge of cloud design patterns and best practices including Microsoft Migrate and Modernise approach.
- Good understanding of Microsoft Identity and Access Management products such as Azure AD, ADFS, Azure AD Connect, SAML, etc.
- Ability to think strategically and perform a risk analysis
- Experience in the design and delivery of enterprise-grade highly available solutions.
- Strong communication and documentation skills with the ability to convey technical issues to all levels.
- Builds and maintains strong relationships with leaders, customers, and team members.
The desired candidate will have
- Knowledge of common database and caching technologies, such as Azure SQL, CosmosDB, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MySQL/MariaDB, Memcache, or Redis.
- Experience with containers and container orchestration using Docker, Kubernetes and AKS.
- Exposure to iterative/agile development methodologies and experience in enabling team delivery through technology.
- An appreciation for SRE and monitoring using tools such as ELK stack.
