Lead CAE Engineer – Gaydon, Warwickshire

Job Purpose:
The role requires the use of FEA tools supported by hand calculations and a strong engineering background to ensure programmes meet their performance, mass and cost targets. This involves owning and leading the analysis of a range of load cases including crashworthiness, NVH, durability, stiffness and strength.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:
- Analysis of a broad range of finite element models to provide efficient engineering solutions which achieve the required legal and internal performance requirements whilst meeting the programme mass and cost targets
- Construction of finite element analysis models
- Actively assist in the development of design targets and standards
- Work alongside commodity owners and CAD teams to evolve designs by giving advice on geometry as well as material and fixing selection
- Present results at a range of levels within the organisation
- Propose and investigate methods for improved accuracy and/or efficiency of AML Body CAE modelling processes
Qualification & Experience:
- Strong understanding of Mechanical Engineering and Finite Element theory
- Experience in CAE of automotive crashworthiness, structural stiffness and strength, NVH and durability
- Experience in the automotive industry with a broad knowledge of engineering design and manufacturing, particularly relating to Body Structures and Safety
- Experience using at least one of the following CAE solvers; Dyna Explicit, DYNA Implicit and Optistruct
- Experience leading analysis and engineering of components as well as leading lesser experienced CAE Engineers
- Experience using the following CAE solvers; Dyna Explicit, DYNA Implicit and Optistruct
- Experience using the following CAE pre- and post-processors; Hyperworks, Oasys and ANSA
- Knowledge of materials used in the high-performance automotive or aerospace sectors, eg. Aluminium alloys and Carbon composites
- Knowledge of world safety standards and test procedures
- Basic knowledge of CAD tools (preferably NX)
- Degree in Mechanical, Automotive, Aeronautical Engineering or Engineering degree
- Postgraduate Engineering or Finite Element based degree may be beneficial
