Auditor / Senior Auditor – Barnsley, South Yorkshire
Barnsley Council is seeking 2 highly motivated and experienced Auditors/Senior Auditors to join our high-performing and respected team based in Barnsley. You will be working on a full-time, permanent (37 hours per week) basis. In return, you will receive a competitive career Gradedsalary of £25,419 – £35,336 per annum.
The Auditor/Senior Auditor role:
You will deliver key aspects of the internal audit portfolio to ensure that the allocated audit plan is delivered to provide the necessary independent and objective professional support, challenge, and advice to the Council (and external client organisations) such that it achieves its key priorities set out in the corporate plan and delivers its core strategies.
Reporting to the Internal Audit Manager or Principal Auditors, our Auditor/Senior Auditor will be responsible for contributing to the provision of:
- An effective, efficient professional internal audit function
- Timely, independent, and objective advice
- A service that adds value and promotes organisational improvement
- Assurance to senior management and audit committees through assisting in the preparation and presentation of reports
- Mutual support to the team to meet individual and collective performance goals
- A role in integrating an organisation-wide control, risk, and governance approach
Responsibilities as our Auditor/Senior Auditor will include:
- Assisting with the monitoring of assigned work to ensure the delivery of tasks are within the time allocated, to the necessary professional standards, and to the achievement of service objectives and performance measures
- Liaising, negotiating, and maintaining effective levels of communication with executive-level senior/chief officers and external review bodies across all client organisations in the delivery of work to assist them in meeting their corporate responsibilities in relation to controls, risk, and governance
- Preparing high quality and timely draft audit reports and report findings for internal review and subsequently presenting them to a range of internal and external stakeholders
- Assisting in the maintenance of high levels of accuracy and compliance with data quality and procedures within the audit management system
Skills and experience we’re looking for in our Auditor/Senior Auditor:
- Experienced in internal audit with at least a complimentary level 3 qualification
- Transferrable skills if not already with internal audit experience
- A proven track record in delivering high-quality work within an internal audit, finance, or governance-related function
- A highly motivated individual and team player
