BI Developer Role Overview
- High-level deliverables:
- Enable self-service BI reporting for the regional business teams
- Gather detailed requirements for each reporting request (both business requirements and data requirements)
- Partner with the Mgr, Data Engineering and Architecture and offshore engineering teams to facilitate design and development (jumping in and helping with backend development when needed)
- Lead and execute all front-end development – Power BI Datasets to the provision to end users; ensuring data quality, consistency in formatting, and ease of use for end users to perform their ad-hoc reporting/dashboard creation
- Lead unit, QA, and user acceptance testing as internal IT and with business users
- Intake all ongoing reporting requirements/enhancements/bugs and communicate to the director and/or scrum master to prioritize development, testing, and delivery
- Be the Power BI expert for the organization, training fellow data and analytics team members as well as business users
- Serve as the Power BI Admin, ensuring uptime, optimal performance, etc.
Tasks within deliverables
- Data mapping -map fields from multiple source systems (new and legacy) to consolidated tables, schemas, views, attributes, KPIs, etc.
- Creating Power BI datasets on Snowflake datamarts, ensuring the data is usable by end users for ad hoc reporting and dashboard creation.
- Master Data cleansing to ensure clean rolled-up data within reports
- May be asked to write ETL to extract data from multiple ERP systems, transform the data into a usable fashion, and load it into an enterprise data warehouse.
- May be asked for data warehouse development (azure blob storage or snowflake)
- Ensuring design efficiency to minimize data refresh lags between systems to report timely data (especially within the Power BI Platform)
- Data Profiling, Data Cleansing, and Data Auditing.
- Decoding and writing complex SQL queries.
- Write and execute test scripts
- Lead UAT efforts by writing training and UAT scripts for business users
- Document functional business requirements documents as well as technical data requirements documents
- Change management in transitioning from a Tableau Environment to a Power BI environment
About you!
A bachelor’s or master’s degree in business administration, computer science, data science, information science or related field, or equivalent work experience. Academic qualification or professional training and experience in legal and regulatory areas are also desirable.
Experience
- 5+ years of experience in data analytics
- Experience leading BI projects, a plus
- Experience with data migration projects, a plus
- Manufacturing industry experience is a plus
- Experience pulling and merging data from multi-ERPs/source systems, required
- Requirements gathering experience required
- Data Mapping experience required
- Data Warehouse experience required (Snowflake a plus)
- Design and development experience in Data warehouses and data marts, a plus
- Power BI or similar visualization tool front-end development a must (5+ years experience required)
- Experience making data usable to the end users
- Experience working in a complex data environment.
- Agile Delivery Experience, a plus
- SSIS Experience, nice to have
- Informatica, Five Tran, and other ETL/ELT tools are a plus
- Excellent business acumen and interpersonal skills; able to work across business lines at all levels to understand business requirements.
- Proven data literacy — the ability to describe business use cases/outcomes, data sources and management concepts, and analytical approaches/options. The ability to translate among the languages used by executive, business and IT stakeholders.
