You will join one of the largest specialist mental health sites in the UK and join a team of over 30 other Consultant Psychiatrists and 8 Clinical Directors / Medical Directors based at our Northampton site so lots of support for someone early in their Consultant career but great opportunities for experienced Consultants to progress into Director level roles in the future too.
The Northampton site also has other services such as Low Secure, PICU, Autism (ASD), Neuropsychiatry, Forensics, and CAMHS as well as our academic and research centre so great opportunities to broaden and develop your skills in the future too. It also has facilities such as a café, garden centre, charity shop, woodwork & ceramics workshop all staffed by patients and service users along with other facilities such as gym’s and swimming pools for patients and staff to use and all based in over 150 acres of beautiful woodland grounds (please see link below for more details).

The Service
Our Neuropsychiatry Division offers specialist services for patients with Dementia and Acquired Brain Injury. The care and rehabilitation offered is recognised for being at the forefront of innovative service developments, for its excellence in service delivery and for its ability to manage and reduce the risks associated with these conditions.
The Neuropsychiatry Division also offers an excellent opportunity to deliver value-based healthcare focusing on clinical outcomes. The service uses a variety of outcomes, both patient facing and quality improvement focused, to complement clinical decisions and guide strategic direction.
The Role
The Neuropsychiatry service in Northampton have an exciting opportunity for a Consultant Psychiatrist to develop and strengthen their experience whilst having the chance to develop research and clinical ideas. This service is forward-thinking, open to new ideas and a holistic approach is taken to patient care and treatment.
If you would like to be part of working with an innovative and dynamic team; be able to develop and deliver up to date treatments; and work in a supportive environment then this is the place for you! This will be a personally and professionally rewarding role. The post-holder will be able to undertake non-clinical activities of interest e.g. research, teaching, governance and management – in an innovative way, and influence the direction of services in order for them to attain the best outcomes for our patients.
You will lead a multi-disciplinary team and oversee the management of patients within the Neuropsychiatry service. You will be able to promote innovation and improvement of services and there will also be a strong research and teaching element to the role. With scope to develop your specialist interests and grow your remit and responsibilities, we will actively encourage you to be a leader nationally in mental health and influence the future direction of services.

The Person
The successful candidate will lead a full MDT and help shape services further through strategic decision-making and improvement projects whilst having support from a team of Junior Doctors and MDT specialists. You will also be able to undertake research projects as part of St Andrew’s commitment to innovation and world-class care.
Applicants must have MRCPsych or equivalent and hold a CCT in Old Age Psychiatry or General Adult Psychiatry
