We are looking for a Maintenance Manager, who can lead the team of Engineers to keep the lab and production line running.

The University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust provides services to 1.9 million people living in Southampton and south Hampshire, while also providing specialist services such as neurosciences, cardiac services, and children’s intensive care to the wider area.

The Trust is currently involved in the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Saliva Testing Programme around testing for Covid 19.

We have a new role available for a long term temporary Maintenance Manager at the Chilworth Lab (Science Park, Southampton, Hampshire, SO16 7QJ).

We are looking for someone to start as soon as possible until 31st December 2021.

If you are not already on the bank you will need to be able to provide a reference covering a 6-month period of employment within the last 3 years.

The working hours 37.5 hours across Monday – Saturday with the plan for this to be office hours such as 9.00 – 17.00.

This is a band 6 position, paying between £35,000 – £40000 depending on experience and will be paid through weekly timesheets with an hourly rate confirmed at offer.

We are looking to find someone who can manage a team of multi-skilled Maintenance Engineers to maintain industrial equipment.  The Engineers will be working in a liquid handling laboratory environment operating a two-shift system.  The facility has a variety of equipment including conveyor systems, laboratory equipment and robots.

As a Maintenance Manager you will be overseeing the Maintenance Engineers while they are carrying out routine maintenance and troubleshooting equipment faults on site, while also installing new equipment, remove old equipment, and train staff on equipment operating procedures as required.

Issues will be escalated through yourself and you will be co-ordinating and planning maintenance across the site.

To ensure success as a Maintenance Manager, you need to have experience managing a multi skilled trade team in ideally a factory, lab or building maintenance setting. You should also have knowledge and experience of working within a trade (electrician, plumber, fitter etc) and of maintaining industrial equipment. You will need to be able to work well under pressure and demonstrate high-level problem-solving skills.  The facility operates on a high-volume testing basis and needs to operate efficiently to achieve its targets.

Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing, manage and lead the team of engineers
  • Problem solve issues
  • Co-ordinate and plan maintenance across the site
  • Work alongside the Quality lead to ensure everything is to the right standard
  • Be the escalation point for issues

Requirements:

  • Apprenticeship or qualification in Mechanical and/or Electrical Engineering.
  • Proven experience managing a multi trade team.
  • Proven work experience as a Maintenance Engineer.
  • Knowledge of relevant industrial standards.
  • Experience of working with mechanical and electrical devices ranging from laboratory equipment, conveyor systems and robots.
  • Ability to read system schematics and interrogate software applications.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills.
  • Understanding of safety and equipment procedures.
  • Good communication and training skills.
  • Strong leadership and management skills.
