Optical Engineer – Southampton, Hampshire
My client, a world leader in the development of scientific instrumentation, is looking for an Optical Engineer in Southampton, to join their team. The team has many years of experience in and is selling to both, R&D, and OEM customers. They have a range of stock crystals & waveguides and can design custom chips for the demanding customer base. The Optical Engineer, Southampton, would work primarily in an optics/photonics laboratory environment developing and delivering optical wavelength conversion modules and systems for standard products and bespoke applications. The scope of the role runs from using optical tools and workstation development to the design and assembly of the free-space coupling into bulk PPLN. In addition to the development duties, the role holder will contribute to product delivery activities meeting bespoke customer orders.
Other responsibilities include the design and delivery of free-space optical modules for PPLN devices (optics and mechanics), development and improvement of workstations for optical testing and assembly, whilst ensure the Company polices including Health & Safety are adhered to at all times. The Optical Engineer, Southampton will ideally have a relevant degree or equivalent knowledge gained through working in a similar industry and will hold the ability to calculate common optical parameters (e.G. Beam spot size, Rayleigh length, power density) without commercial software tools. You will have experience with lasers and laser diodes and opto-mechanical design, along with Industrial experience of designing and building commercial free-space optical devices and Industrial experience of free space to fibreoptic packaging.
